5 Things you need to know before cutting your hair short

Jennifer Lawrence is the latest celeb to go totally short with their hair–and I'm loving her spunky new pixie cut. It's totally my favorite short style of the year!

I thought Jennifer Aniston's new bob was chic, but this modern pixie is definitely cooler. It seems as if everyone in Hollywood is getting a major hair makeovers. First it was Miley Cyrus, then Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Pamela Anderson and now J.Law. Notice there's no Latina stars going super short. Shocker! I'm not going to lie, I'm definitely one of those Latinas that can't seem to let go of my long, flowy locks. Just the thought of chopping it all off gives me anxiety. But why is that?

For some reason short pixies just aren''t something you typically see Latinas rocking. Maybe it's a cultural thing, I don't know. But I do know that a lot of us can't imagine parting from our lengthy strands. I was even shocked when I heard Adrienne Bailon cut her hair into a stylish lob (short bob). Anything above the shoulders is a BIG deal for us. But after seeing J.Law's new fabulous pixie, I wouldn't be surprised if more Latinas decided to finally give the fashionable 'do a shot. Think you're ready to take the plunge? Here are a few things you need to know first!

Do you have the confidence? Just letting you ladies know upfront, the pixie cut is NOT for the shy. If you don't have the confidence to own this look, there's no way you'd be able to pull it off. If I were you, I'd definitely think twice before going for the big chop. Remember, there's no hair to hide behind!

Consider your hair type. Pixie cuts for the most part tend to work on most hair types. It's all about finding a cut that works with your texture. With that said, if you have wavy or curly hair, keep in mind that it's going to take a little more time and effort to style.

Figure out your face shape. Not sure if a pixie cut would look as amazing on you as it does on Beyonce? The first thing you have to do is figure out your face shape. Super short styles tend to work on oval and heart-shaped faces. But if you have a square or round face and still want to take the plunge, ask your stylist to find you a cut that will help elongate your face.

Think about your features. If there's one thing a pixie cut does, is put more emphasis on your facial features. If you have smaller facial features, chances are the pixie cut will look just fine on you. But if they're on the larger side, you might want to add layers to help soften them up.

Do you have time to style? Certain pixie cuts take little to no effort. But depending on your texture and style, some require a few extra minutes of styling every morning. Definitely something you should take into consideration!
