I have a confession: I'm obsessed with professional blowouts. So much so, I get one done every week at my local Dominican hair salon. But my addiction still doesn't come close to W magazine writer Sandra Ballentine and her confessed obsession. You're NOT going to believe __how much this woman was spending on blowouts on a weekly basis!

The girl was spending close to $250 each week for three blowouts! That's about $13,000 a year–a near fortune! It was so insane, her own editor challenged her to abstain from hot tool styling for a good three months!
But it wasn't easy for Sandra to go cold turkey. In fact, she didn't even realize she had a problem until her friend (and also editor at W Magazine) asked her why there was no shampoo in her house. Her response: "I don't wash my own hair, unless I'm at some kind of boot camp or on safari," she replied nonchalantly. And unlike most women who enjoy regular professional blowouts, Sandra wasn't receiving just one a week. She was getting her hair blown out up to three times a week, which is why she was spending around $250 on a weekly basis. How crazy is that?
"That's like somebody's rent every month," ABC News host Linzie Janis said. Because her addiction was so out of control, Sandra's friend decided to challenge her to go three months without blowouts. So for three months, Sandra couldn't touch a single hot tool, meaning no blow dryers, no flat irons, no curling irons–nada!
"I didn't think I could do it," Sandra said. "And then I kind of got over myself. I was like, come on, who cares that much?" Now she's managed to limit her salon visits to only once every couple of weeks and she's even saving towards buying a house.
After hearing about Sandra's blowout obsession, I'm starting to wonder if mine would even be considered an addiction. I get a professional blowout almost every week but it only costs me 30 bucks–and that's including tip! I also only do it during the fall and winter months, because I hate fussing with damp curls when it's cold out.
Plus, unlike Sandra, I don't get salon blowouts every week because I absolutely HAVE to, but because I want to. Even though I have to admit, giving my strands a heat-styling break every here and there while saving some extra cash doesn't sound like a bad idea!
