With fall and its chilly weather already here, I can't wait to start sporting bold, red lips again. But instead of glossy red, daring matte red pouts (like Jessica Alba's pictured here) are taking center stage this season and I'm absolutely loving it! Why you ask? Well because it's very retro, classic, and stays on for hours. Only thing is, one mistake and you'll have the stain bleeding from your lips and rubbing on your teeth. Not cute!

So how does a girl pull off this Hollywood-glam inspired look? With just a few super simple tricks of course. Check them out and get gorgeous red labios now!
Smooth lips: First things first: You can't nail matte red lips with a chapped pout. So make sure to smooth away feathered skin with a nourishing lip exfoliator, like Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub ($18). Apply a moisturizing balm immediately after.
Be exact: For a perfect cupid bow, use a lip liner in the same shade as your lipstick to line your lips. I love Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in True Red ($19). It goes on easily and smoothly!
Use a brush: It's hard to perfectly apply a red lipstick straight from the tube. Try using a lip brush, like Sephora Collection Pro Lip Brush ($12) for more precise application. Start off in the middle and then carefully work your way to the corners.
Matte: You can use a matte lipstick, but for an even more matte effect gently pat your lips with a tissue that's sprinkled with translucent powder. I suggest NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder ($34).
Clean it up: Clean up around the edges of your mouth with a concealer pen, like CoverGirl + Olay Concealer Balm ($8).
