Cleanse & banish
Use an acne-fighting body wash that’s not only going to get your squeaky clean, but that contains ingredients like salicylic acid that helps treat and prevent breakouts. Try the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash in Pink Grapefruit ($8).
Bathe before and after workouts
Whenever you work out your adrenal glands start to pump out testosterone which causes you to sweat. This is great for your body, bad for your acne-prone skin because it can cause pores to clog. Make sure to always shower before and after exercising.
Use a back spray
Applying acne treatments to your back many times feels like a mission impossible. Well that’s because who can reach? Try a body spray instead, like the Murad Clarifying Body Spray ($37) that contains retinol and salicylic acid.
Try oil-free sunscreens
During the summertime we tend to load up on heavy sunscreens which help protect our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays but can also lead to breakouts. Try a light SPF that’s oil-free. I like Clinique’s Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Body Cream ($23). It’s great for sensitive skin that’s prone to breakouts.
Exfoliate
Try exfoliating at least once a week with a body scrub and loofah to help buff away dead skin cells that can clog pores. Try the KP Duty Body Scrub ($44). This dermatologist recommended formula is infused with green tea and willow bark that helps reduce redness, irritation, and inflammation.
See a derm
If you still can’t seem to get rid of those pesky spots, you might want to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist. A prescription medication might give you better results than an over-the-counter product.
