Save or splurge? The best curl enhancers for summer

Ever since my curls started suffering from heat damage, I've been on a quest to get them to bounce back. Constant blow-drying and flat ironing left some of my rizos so flat and lifeless you'd think I had a chemical straightener, like the Brazilian Keratin done. So until my curl pattern is fully back I've been testing out curl enhancing formulas to give my tresses more definition and volume. The question is: Can you find a good one for less than 20 bucks? Well that my friends is exactly what I wanted to find out.

I tested the Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer ($22) against the drugstore favorite, Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie ($10) and you're NOT going to believe the results!

Let me begin by reminding you that because my hair is heat damaged, there are certain sections that don't curl right. I pretty much have a head full of curls mixed with wavy and straight pieces. With that said, the Aveda Curl Enhancer provided me with pretty good results. I applied it to damp, clean hair and let my hair air-dry. My curls weren't just bouncer, but they looked a lot more uniformed too. You could hardly tell I'm suffering from heat-damage. And it also left my rizos super soft and shiny, without any frizz. I couldn't have been happier!

That is until I tried the Shea Moisture product. First off, this curl boosting cream smells absolutely delicious! I'm talking piña colada delicious!  The amount of people that told me my hair smelled great was ridiculous.  Anyhow, I applied the curl enhancer to my hair this morning after waking up with a head full of poufy, frizzy curls. It automatically smoothed out and defined my curls, and left my hair with a lot of volume and shine. My hair looked surprisingly better than it even did with the Aveda one that I really did love.

But I have to say even though both products left me with AM-AZING results I have to go with the Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie because not only did it leave my curls looking even bouncer and more voluminous, but I can't get over how wonderful my hair smelled. That was definitely an added bonus. Plus, it only cost me 10 bucks. Can't go wrong there!
