Save or splurge? Blotting sheets to keep your face oil & sweat free

If there's one thing I hate about the summer, it's how oily my skin gets. My skin gets so oily that I pretty much have to forgo any kind of foundation and wind up usually just moisturizing and doing my eyes. There's really nothing more unattractive than a super shiny face, which is why I'm obsessed with blotting sheets.

They work to do the obvious: absorb excess oil without messing up our makeup. But I've tried quite a few and haven't always received the same results. I wasn't too sure if drugstore ones worked, so I decided to test out my favorite TATCHA Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers ($12) against the even cheaper Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets ($5). Read on to find out who won!

I tried the TATCHA Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers for the first time last summer and was very amazed with the results. There was one especially hot summer night  I had plans with girlfriends and refused to not wear makeup. I made sure to refresh my face with the blotting sheets and was surprised at how well they kept my face dry and my makeup intact.

But after a while spending $12 bucks on a pack of 30 blotting sheets I could get through in a week was starting to add up. So this summer I decided to give the Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets a shot. As soft at the TATCHA paper was, I actually preferred the smoothness of the Clear & Clear sheets. It felt less like paper and was gentler on my skin. It instantly soaked any sweat or oil from my face without smudging my makeup. But what I especially loved was how infrequently I had to use them. I used one sheet earlier in the day and wouldn't use another until hours later. This 50 sheet pack was lasting me almost an entire month. That's how effective they were!

So as much as I LOVE the TATCHA Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers, the Clean & Clear Oil Absoring Sheets were cheaper, worked better, and lasted longer. So the next time you decided to invest in this summer must-have make sure to head to the nearest pharmacy!
