It's no secret that I'm an eye makeup junkie and am obsessed with eyeliner and most of all mascara. So I recently put to our Save or Splurge test three amazing waterproof mascaras. I know our challenge usually involves two, but I have to share the results in my demanding week-long foolproof test to tell you about the best of the best in mascaras that won't run!
The three mascaras are: Dior Diorshow Black Out Waterproof Mascara ($25), Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Waterproof Mascara ($9), and Maybelline Volum'Express The Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara ($7). Read on to find out the skinny on my rigorous test and the results!

My "test" was pretty much the best way you can figure out if a waterproof mascara is truly worth it: I went on vacation with my husband and 1-year-old son and subjected each mascara to its own day of wear, during which I went in the pool, played around the sand and beach with my baby (which of course involves sweating), then went in the ocean water, and hours later went back to our hotel room to check on the raccoon-eyes condition of my makeup. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that not only were there practically NO smudges with any of these three mascaras, they had stayed on and were making my eyes look amazing hours after I applied them.
I do want to break down some of the best uses for each of these mascaras so you can use the one that is most fit to your activities!
For special occasions: Hands down, the mascara that would not fail you for a big event is Dior's classic Diorshow Black Out Waterproof Mascara. It will serve you well during crying bouts at a wedding, nights out at the club, hot date night with the hubby–any event where you have to look good and your eye makeup needs to stay put.
For being out and about at the pool or beach: The best for being outdoorsy is Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Waterproof Mascara. Not only did it actually provide tons of volume, but its staying power was amazing–better than anything I've ever used.
For every day wear: Maybelline Volum'Express The Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara is the one you need. Like the Revlon mascara, this one went on thick and dark, really magnifying my lashes. But the beauty of it? It comes off easily at the end of the day, so no special gunky eye makeup remover needed!
