How we REALLY feel about our curly hair

I'll admit, it took me a while to finally embrace my natural curls. In fact, it wasn't until I started college that I realized I didn't have to wear my hair straight all the time. Even so, it took almost losing them to constant blow-drying and flat ironing recently to make me really LOVE them.

I realized that my curls were what made my look so distinct. Thankfully they're growing back and you know what? Most curly-haired girls actually love their curls too! That's right, according to a 2013 "Curly Girl" survey commissioned by L'Oréal, 74 percent of women with wavy or curly hair say they receive compliments on their hair men and women alike.

Think about that the next time you consider getting a Brazilian blowout!

Close to 50 percent of men perceive curly-haired women as fun, 37 percent think we're adventurous, and 42 percent think we're sexy (because, duh, we are). More than 50 percent of other women also perceive curly-q'd ladies as fun. So much so, that 80 percent of them claim that if they could choose their natural hair texture they'd prefer to wake up with wavy or curly hair! With all of the hair straightening products and procedures out there, who would've thought?

Think about it, not embracing your curls kind of goes against nature. It's like you're trying to tame this wild part of you that just wants to be set free. There's a reason why your blow out frizzes up whenever it's humid out. It's your hair's way of telling you, 'Just let me be!'

Let's be honest, as high maintenance as curly hair is, it really is beautiful. I don't know about you, but I feel taller, sexier, and wilder in bed whenever I sport my rizos–that's probably why 47 percent of curly girls rock their natural texture every single day.

The fact that so many curly-haired chicas have been brainwashed into believing we don't look as pretty or professional with curls is total BS. Believe me,  you were blessed with a head full of wild curls for a reason. It's because you weren't placed on this earth to follow the straight and boring conventions of what society used to define as beautiful.

You were made to stand out, so embrace it because everyone else already has!
