I love summer, but I HATE the way it always wreaks havoc on my hair. Between the sun, sea salt water, chlorine, and crazy humidity, my tresses always wind up looking like they've gone through hell and back. But but not this year my friends. This time I'm stacking up on products that are going to keep my hair protected and healthy no matter what it winds up enduring.

Luckily, it's not going to cost me much either because there are a lot of amazing affordable options out there. Check out some of my favorites–all for under 10 bucks a pop!

Keep those frizzy flyways and kinks at baby with an anti-frizz product, like L'Oréal Paris  Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum ($7). It also boosts shine.

Look for a curl cream, like Marc Anthony True Professional Strictly Curls Curl Envy Perfect Curl Cream ($8), to help control frizz and keep curls defined.

Just because it’s hot doesn’t mean you don’t want to experiment with cool hairstyles. Try a hairspray that’s going to keep your look together despite the weather conditions, like TRESemme Climate Control Protection Finishing Spray ($5).

UV rays aren’t just bad for your skin, but they can dry out your hair as well especially if it’s color-treated. The next time you step out into the sun try a hairspray that includes UV protection, like Garnier Fructis Style UV Color Shield Anti-Humidity Hairspray ($5).

The key to keeping your tresses soft and healthy during the summer is doing regular deep conditioning treatments. Try applying a hair repair mask to strands at least once a week. I love L'Oréal Paris  Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm ($8).

Hair gel

If a curling cream isn’t exactly cutting it for you on those insanely humid days, opt for a shaping hair gel that’s’ still going to keep your curls smooth and soft. Try Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Style Curl Shaping Hair Gel ($4).

Hair oil

I’m not a huge fan of hair oils during the summer just because they wind up leaving my strands kind of greasy. But Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Anti-frizz Serum ($7) is a lightweight hair serum filled with argan and almond oils that nourishes and smooths your hair without weighing it down.

Leave-in

Keep your strands constantly hydrated with a leave-in conditioner, like Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioner Cream ($6). It keeps hair smooth even if there's 97 percent humidity. Awesome right?

Protect your color from fading with a color protective conditioner, like Suave Professional Moroccan Infusion Color Care Conditioner ($4). No reason to avoid the pool this summer.
