I don't know about you, but I've always liked my men nice and scruffy (kinda like Javier Bardem here). There's something about a dude with some heavy stubble on his face that really does it for me. And it looks like I'm not the only one who thinks like this, because according to a new study conducted by researchers in Australia most women prefer men with a scruffy face over a guy with a clean-shaven face or full beard. I'm not surprised at all!

In the study, published in the May issue of the journal Evolution & Human Behavior, scruff ruled out clean-shaven, light stubble, and full beards. University of New South Wales professors Barnaby J. Dixson and Rob C. Brooks conducted their research by presenting photos of 10 smiling men to 177 straight men and women, according to MedicalXpress. Each of the men from the photos was displayed in 4 different ways–clean and shaved, light stubble (with 5 days of beard growth), scruffy/heavy stubble (with 10 days of beard growth), and full-bearded. Both men and women rated the men with the heavy stubble as most attractive.
"Our findings confirm that beardedness affects judgement of male socio-sexual attributes and suggest that an intermediate level of beardedness is most attractive while full-bearded men may be perceived as better fathers who could protect and invest in offspring," the researchers concluded.
There's something so sexy, masculine, and edgy about a man with some scruff on his face. It just makes me want to rub my face against his and rip off his clothes! Okay … let me not get carried away here. But I have to agree with the study: When a man shaves his face entirely, he doesn't seem as manly. Light stubble looks too messy and patchy and a full beard just screams "viejo" to me (George Clooney being the clear and only exeption here). All in all, scruff is definitely the fair medium. Come on you know you love it too!
