8 Ways to deal when you get a bad haircut!

There's seriously nothing worse than dealing with a bad haircut and let's face it–we've all been there! You know that terrible cut that wound up being inches shorter than you had expected, that's insanely hard to style, or has you feeling depressed anytime you take a glance in the mirror. I recently got one of those and have to admit, the coping process has been taking a lot longer than I had anticipated. But it's also taught me that a bad chop doesn't have to be the end of the world. There are definitely ways to save your strand sanity without having to chop it all off and start from scratch.

I'd like to think that my beauty mistakes don't happen in vain, but instead help me educate other women who might be experiencing the same dilemmas. So check out a few of my tips below to help you deal with a bad haircut and prevent another one from EVER happening again!

Wear your hair straight: If your hair is too short and you want to give the illusion of more length, consider wearing your hair straight for a while. I've been treating myself to weekly blow-outs until my hair finally grows in. Try blow-drying your hair straight using a round boar bristle brush or fire up your flatiron. Heat helps stretch and smooth hair, making it appear longer. Just make sure to always apply a heat protective spray, like Moroccanoil Heat Styling Protection Spray ($28) before styling to keep your strands safe from heat-damage.

Curl it: There's nothing more annoying than a head full of unwanted choppy, wispy layers. This is a lazy girl's nightmare come true. The cut could actually wind up making your hair look thinner and stringy. In this case, you might want to curl the ends of your hair to create more volume using a curling iron. If this still doesn't help, try combing your front hair back and decorating your mane with a chic headband. This will keep all those pesky layers away from your face. Head wraps work perfect for the warm-weather seasons and add a nice boho touch.

Play with accessories: Whether it's pesky layers or unwanted bangs, incorporating cute hair accessories can definitely soften a strong cut. Twist a few pieces away from your face and secure them with bobby pins. I love the Urban Outfitters Pearl & Floral Bobby Pin set ($7). They're super pretty and feminine.

If you have an uneven cut: Try to refrain from picking up your scissors and fixing this yourself. Instead, use a 1.5-inch curling iron to create soft waves to disguise those imperfections.

Put the focus somewhere else: One thing I've definitely learned from this haircut gone wrong is to not solely depend on my hair when it comes to looking good. Instead I now make a conscious effort to get creative with my makeup whether it's putting the focus on my eyes or trying a bold, bright lip. I'm also wearing more jewelry and brighter, feminine clothing to shift the focus away from my hair. After all, your hair should just be an accessory not the focal point of your overall look.

Experiment with hairstyles: I'm still not here yet, but experimenting with updos is also a great way to deal with a bad cut, that is if your hair isn't too short. If you've always worn your hair down, trying wearing it up in a cute ponytail, bun, or soft undone look, using styling products to help keep strands in place.

Consider extensions: If you absolutely must, try extensions. You can try permanent ones, but you're taking the risk of it thinning out your hair and possibly delaying the hair growth process. Better yet, invest in a pair of clip-ons for those days when you just want to sport longer tresses. The Jessica Simpson Hair Extensions are natural looking, easy to use, and relatively affordable. The Simply Straight Ponytail ($42) is perfect if you're looking to add some length and thickness to your pony styles.

And most importantly–don't let this happen again: The next time you get a cut, make sure you go see a stylist you absolutely trust. And don't stop there: bring a photo of the exact style you want, let them know exactly how many inches you're willing to have chopped off, and be sure to communicate what your hairstyling needs are.

Don't stress, chica, before you know it you'll have your old hair back!
