5 Steps to bouncy, frizz-free curls overnight

Even though I usually resort to blow-drying my hair straight just because I hate having to fuss with washing and styling every morning, I've recently discovered a genius way you can style your tresses overnight to prevent waking up with a hot mess of bed hair. It involves flexi rod rollers and some product. Read on to find out the full details and the step-by-step!

The first thing you want to do is wash your hair. I recommend washing with a sulfate-free shampoo that's going to gently cleanse your curls without causing any frizz. I love DevaCurl No-Poo Cleanser ($29).

Step 2

Use a conditioner that's going to deeply hydrate your hair and make it easier to detangle. I'm obsessed with Mixed Chicks Detangling Deep Conditioner ($11). It detangles so well, I don't even need to use a comb.

After rinsing the conditioner, apply a curl cream or leave-in conditioner instead of gel or mousse. This will help you get soft, polished curls. I used Ouidad Moisture Lock Leave-In Conditioner ($23).

Look for a pack of flexi rods that includes at least 20, depending on how thick your hair is. I recommend looking for a set that includes at least 2 different sizes, especially if your tresses are layered. Try Goody Start Style Finish Flexible Rod Rollers ($15). Never apply flexi rods when your hair is soaking wet, because not only will it be harder to hold, but it will literally take hours for your hair to dry. Instead, air-dry until hair is about 75 percent dry, then take sections of hair and wrap the ends around the center of the flexi rod to hold and then roll it up until you hit your roots. Take the ends of the flexi rods and just bend them so that it holds in place.

Keep the rods in overnight and in the morning gently take them out. Separate curls with your fingers to get a defined and natural look. I like to add a little bit of coconut oil to the ends to give it some shine. Try Organix's Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist ($7). It includes a combination of coconut oil and bamboo extract that leaves hair super soft and healthy-looking.
