We've all had moments when we wished our hair would just grow a little faster, especially after a scissor-happy hairdresser snipped off a few more inches than expected. Heck, I've been there! I recently got a haircut that wound up being a lot shorter than I had wanted and I've been doing everything in my power to get my waist long locks back. Even so, when it comes to hair growth, there is no quick solution. In fact, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the truth is that how fast or long your hair grows is determined by your genes. In other words, not everyone can grow waist long hair quickly, no matter how many lotions and potions you try. But there are a few ways to get your hair to grow a little faster than normal and prevent it from breakage or loss. Check out a few of these tips below to help you grow long, luscious strands!

1. Get regular trims: A lot of women don't realize how trimming your hair affects hair growth. Split ends can make hair appear dull and thinner, not to mention cause breakage. Make sure to schedule regular trims with your stylist every 6 to 8 weeks.
2. Give yourself a scalp massage: Scalp massages help stimulate the blood flow to your scalp, which helps bring nutrients to your hair follicles that lead to growth. Try massaging your scalp before shampooing with rosemary oil, that helps increase circulation and leaves hair smooth and shiny. You can also give yourself scalp massages while you're washing your hair. Use your fingertips, not your nails and start at the back of your neck working your way around the hairline.
3. Do a deep conditioning treatment: I recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment to your hair at least once a week to keep it conditioned and healthy. A good DIY treatment works just as good as any salon hair mask. I like combining a half mashed-up avocado with a tablespoon of coconut oil. I leave it in for about 15 minutes and then wash and condition as usual. It's such an inexpensive way to get my hair super-shiny and smooth!
4. Use heat protective products: If you're anything like me, you're probably reaching for those heat styling tools while you grow your hair out. To avoid dryness and breakage, make sure to always apply a heat protectant to hair before styling. Try Moroccanoil Heat Styling Protection Spray ($28).
5. Eat healthy: Ever heard the saying, "Healthy hair starts from the inside?" It's so true! Keeping a healthy diet is key for maintaining a head full of long, healthy hair. Look for foods that are rich in Biotin, like carrots, eggs, almonds, berries, cucumbers and cauliflowers. Biotin is known as the "hair food," because it helps increase the rate of hair growth. You can also try taking Biotin supplements. Multi-vitamins that contain vitamin B and antioxidants will help increase hair's strength as well.
