Curly Q: How can I make my curls looked more polished for a special event?
I'll admit, it's not always easy to style natural curls into a glamorous 'do–for the simple fact that curls tend to have a mind of their own and don't always cooperate. When I have a special occasion myself, I'm quick to resort to blow-drying it straight. But let's face it chicas: If it's hot and humid out, a smooth, straight style could easily transform into a pajón (poof). And no one is trying to have that happen. So I looked to one of my favorite curly hair celebs, Camila Alves, for inspiration. Check out a few of these elegant looks below (along with my styling tips) to help you achieve a romantic curly hairstyle with plenty of body and bounce!

Do a lose updo
Updos tend to look more modern with textured hair rather than with sleek, straight strands. To guarantee your curls stay frizz-free, dry hair using a diffuser attachment instead of just air-drying. Then sweep up your ringlets into a mid-length loose, messy bun, securing with bobby pins. I'd leave a few strands out to give it a nice romantic touch.
Try a side-do
If you have long hair, go for an elegant side 'do. For perfectly, polished looking ringlets, prep clean, wet hair with a curl cream or leave-in conditioner that's going to give your curls bounce without the crunch. I like Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner ($17). Let your hair air-dry, then take 1-inch sections of hair and wrap it around a 1/2-inch curling iron to give curls more definition. Pull hair to one side and secure with bobby pins. For long-lasting results, hold the look with a light-weight and flexible hold hair spray, like Garnier Fructis Flexible Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray ($5).
Try a faux-bob
A faux bob is such a classic look that's pretty easy to pull off. Apply a lightweight mousse to curls to create body and definition. Dry curls using a diffuser and then part your hair slightly off center. Pull hair into a very low ponytail and then wrap an elastic band a few inches from the end of your hair. Take the end of the ponytail and then loop it towards your head, until you reach your desired bob length. Tuck hair underneath and then secure with bobby pins. Pull a few pieces out in the front to give it more or a modern edge.
