5 Easy tips to transform your wet hair while you sleep

I normally don't like leaving my hair wet overnight because I usually wake up to find a HOT mess! But believe it or not, sometimes sleeping with damp locks could actually help you eliminate bedhead and wake up with gorgeous hair. Doing your hair overnight can save you a ton of time in the morning and allow you to focus on other things like, oh I don't know, doing your makeup. Not to mention, it also means you can avoid styling with heat tools, like the blow-dryer which over time can leave hair dry and dull (something I've been struggling with lately). So without further ado, check out a few of these wet hair tips that will have you wake up to an instantly good hair day!

1. Wake up to perfect curls: Try applying a light-weight alcohol and silicone free styling gel, like DevaCurl Light Defining Gel ($19), to wet hair before hitting the sack. Don't worry about it leaving your curls crunchy, sleeping on it overnight will cause them to soften.

2. Get more volume: Thin, fine hair tends to fall flat easily, especially overnight. Try spraying a volume-boosting spray, like TRESemme 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray ($9), to wet strands. Then tilt head upside down and gather hair into a high ponytail. Twist it into a loose, high bun and hold it with a few bobby pins. In the morning you'll wake up with va-va-voom volume!

3. Sport shiner hair: Apply a small amount of coconut oil to clean, wet strands at night. Focus just on the mid-length section and the ends do avoid weighing hair down. The great thing about coconut oil is that it easily absorbs preventing your hair from getting sticky or greasy. In the morning, you'll wake up with super glossy hair that smells delicious too!

4. Get waves: If you have naturally straight hair and are looking to add a little texture, apply a texturizing spray, like Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray ($6), to wet strands before bed. Then style hair into a loose braid starting from the nape down. Secure ends with an elastic. Unwind hair in the morning and refresh by gently scrunching waves with your hands from the ends to roots.

5. Prevent frizz: Apply a lightweight leave-in conditioner to clean, wet hair. I like Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream ($3). Twist hair into a loose, ballerina bun and pin with bobby pins. This will also help preserve curls or waves and give straight hair some shape. In the a.m., take down hair and apply a pea-size amount of a frizz-free serum, like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Original Hair Serum ($10) to ends.
