I'll admit, I'm not photogenic by ANY means. I was finally starting to come to terms with the fact that I'll never look as slim and fabulous as the celebs. Seriously, did you see how great some of them looked at the 2013 Oscar and Grammy awards? But don't be fooled, they use a ton of tips and tricks to make sure they always look photo-ready–and I think I'm going to finally start using them, especially now that I'm newly single. The more reason to update my Facebook profile pictures, right?
So if you're also trying to look better and slimmer in front of the camera, check out a few of these helpful tips below!

1. Fake a flat tummy: Try twisting your torso a little, turning one shoulder towards the camera. Make sure to keep your outward hand on your hip. It takes away visible inches, making you look a lot slender.
2. Don't eat and pose: Whenever I'm getting together with friends or family, I always try to get a few pictures taken before we start to eat and drink. Taking the pictures afterwards can make you look bloated and tired. Believe me, you'll feel a lot more in control on an empty (sober) stomach.
3. If you can, avoid flash: Flash can be extremely unflattering. It can wash out your complexion and shed light on those problem areas. Instead, if you're using a good camera, try taking pictures in a room that has good lighting. You want to avoid any extra light that can cast shadows downward that can make your figure and eyes look heavier.
4. Figure out your signature pose: Go through some of your favorite pictures of yourself and look at what poses worked best. Do you look better with a subtle smile? Is your right side your best side? Figure it out and replicate those looks the next time you have your picture taken.
5. Beat the bloat: Whenever I get together with my extended family for dinner parties, I tend to eat a lot. So I always make sure I carry some antacids in my purse to prevent indigestion and a bloating belly.
6. Hold your head high: Holding your head high and pushing your face forward can make your face look thinner. Just try not to think about how silly you might feel doing it.
7. Go higher: I absolutely hate whenever someone takes my picture bending down. Why? Because it makes you look so much bigger. The next time you have someone take your photo, make sure they stand up straight or stand up on something that will get them higher than you. This helps minimize under eye bags, camouflages a double chin, and makes you look longer and leaner.
8. Point one foot forward: Ever noticed how a lot of celebs tend to point one foot in front whenever they're on the red carpet? It's for a reason! Standing face forward with one foot slightly in front of the other actually makes your legs look longer and your hips look slimmer.
