Oily skin: Just because your T-zone might be a little shiny, doesn't mean you have oily skin. If your face tends to feel a little greasy by the end of the day then that might indicate that you have an oily skin type which can also lead to breakouts. Look for a gel cleanser that includes salicylic acid that can help fight and prevent breakouts, like Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel ($35). Also, make sure to incorporate a light moisturizer that won't make your skin feel greasy. I love Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Lotion ($12).
Dry skin: Dry skin usually starts to look dull and flaky by the end of the day. Make sure to incorporate a gentle exfoliator into your beauty routine. This will help buff away any dead skin cells. I love St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub ($5).
Combination skin: If you have combination skin like me, you probably experience a lot of dryness in the winter and a shiny T-zone during the warmer months along with occasional breakouts. It's important to still exfoliate your skin to help remove any of the dry, flaky skin that might build up on the outer edges of your face. Try also incorporating face oil into your routine to help balance your skin's natural oils. I like Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil ($50).
Sensitive skin: If your skin easily reds, irritates and burns chances are you have sensitive skin. Look for products that include soothing and calming ingredients like aloe vera or lavender, such as The Body Shop Aloe Calming Facial Cleanser ($14). Try to stay away from retinols, formulas that include high levels of glycolic or other harsh ingredients that can easily irritate sensitive skin. And look for moisturizers and creams that are specifically designed for sensitive skin types.
