I can't help but notice that Jessica Alba has been experimenting a whole lot with lip colors lately. Just recently, she sported a pretty bubble gum pink pout, and last month she wore everything from coral, hot pink to orange lipstick. The Sin City: A Dame to Kill actress has effortlessly nailed these looks each and every time, but I have to tell you–it's not that easy to pull off.

If you have olive skin (like Jessica's) or darker, it's harder to find bright lip colors that compliment your skin. But I've come to learn that many times it has less to do with the color itself and more to do with the undertones.
In other words, it doesn't matter how light or dark you are, you can totally work bright lipstick too. These shades look especially great during the spring time, but it's a nice way to brighten up a dull winter complexio right now too.

Bubble gum pink

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but pink lipstick has become the new red. With just a few swipes it can instantly brighten your face. But you want to make sure you pick the right shade or it can easily wash out your face. The darker your skin, the brighter and deeper you want to go with your color. For pale or light skin tones go for a cool Barbie-pink color with a blue tint, like MAC Lipstick in Saint Germain ($15). For medium or dark complexions try a warmer shade, like Revlon Super Lusturous Pearl Lipstick in Gentleman Prefer Pink ($8).
Coral

Jessica complimented her peach colored gown at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards with a bright coral pout. For fair and light skin try a pinkish hue, like NARS Lipstick in Niagara ($24). But if you’re like Jessica or darker you want to go for a richer, and brighter shade. Try Estee Lauder Pure Color Vivid Shine Lipstick in Fireball ($25). This will bring out your yellow or gold undertones.
Bright orange

Now here’s a color that will brighten up your day. For fair or light complexions opt for a rosey/orange shade, like Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in Watermelon ($19). Try a vibrant orange on medium or dark complexions. I like Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti ($8).
Hot Pink

The deeper your skin tone the darker the pink. Lighter shades can make medium or dark complexions look chalky. Try Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Pretty Boy ($16). For fair skin opt for CoverGirl LipPerfection LipColor in Spellbound ($7).
Bright red

The great thing about red lipstick is that it never goes out of style. But even so the bright red shade is definitely not a size fits all. Berry reds, like Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Red Revolution ($6) tend to flatter fair skin, while true reds look great on medium and darker complexions. I love MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo ($15).
