5 Easy tips to getting perfect ombré dyed hair at home!

It looks like the ombré hair trend is not going to be fading away anytime soon. Women everywhere have been getting their strands dip-dyed from the roots (darkest) to ends (lightest), including some of our favorite celebrities like Camila Alves, La La Anthony, Daisy Fuentes and most recently, Jessica Alba, and even our own staffers here at MamásLatinas have tried the hair color trend.

But now you don't have to go to the salon because thanks to our tips below and–if you can wait about a month–a nifty invention by L'Oréal Paris, you can create ombré strands yourself at home!

The new L'Oréal Paris Feria Wild Ombre Kit ($13), which will go on sale in February, includes a three-part lightening system with a patented brush that allows you to easily create the look. All you have to do is place the treatment on the brush they provide and streak your hair with the product. Then let it sit for 25 to 45 minutes (depending on how intense you want it) and you're good to go! The collection will be feature three different shade options, one for medium to dark brown hair, one for dark blonde to light brown hair, and one for light to medium blonde hair.

However, if you are dying (no pun intended!) to try this trend and can't wait until February, check out a few tips below on how to score an ombré look yourself at home!

Step 1: Before you begin the process, make sure you do a hair treatment mask the week before to condition and nourish strands before coloring. I recommend Moroccanoil Weightless Hydrating Mask ($55). This argan oil enriched formula deeply hydrates hair in just 5 minutes without weighing down your strands.

Step 2: The day you plan on doing the ombré dyeing, wash hair with a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing conditioner. Try TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner ($7).

Step 3: Keep in mind that these tips are for either virgin (not colored hair) or hair that's monotone and without highlights. For virgin hair, use a permanent hair color, like Clairol Nice 'N Easy ($8) in a shade that's three shades lighter than your color for a look that blends easily. Anything lighter than that will result in a much more drastic ombré look. But if drastic is what you're aiming for, feel free to go four or five shades lighter. For already dyed hair, try a demi-permanent color, like Garnier HerbaShine Color Crème ($7).

Step 4:  Part your hair in four sections using elastics and separate the ends of your hair in each section. Apply the color to the ends and let it sit for about 20 minutes (or depending on the recommended time mentioned on the package). Remove the elastics and apply the color about an inch above where you originally applied the color; let it sit for 10 minutes. The color should fade gradually from dark as it goes down to your ends.

Step 5: Wash your hair and–voila!–ombré hair!
