Save or splurge? Overnight anti-aging creams are put to the test

I hate to admit this but as I get older, I find that the clock is ticking by and I am in desperate need in taking better care of my face in order to prevent heinous wrinkles and, well, get rid of a couple of the ones that have cropped up already. That's why, when our beauty and fashion writer Johanna Ferreira asked me to test some overnight anti-aging creams, I absolutely JUMPED at the chance. For today's beauty save or splurge, I'm testing Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream ($20) and Clinique Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer ($47).

So which one is better? Read on…

There is a really annoyingly deep wrinkle at the very top of my forehead that I have been really self-conscious about ever since I got it a few years ago. No daytime cream has really worked to help me get rid of it, so I was excited to see what these two overnight creams could do.

When I tried Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream, it felt soft to the touch. Although I expected it to be a bit greasy (since I have combination oily skin, this often happens), it was actually pretty comfortable. The cream itself felt airy and fluffy and, after applying it for a week straight, my face never felt better. I would wake up each morning to that annoying wrinkle being pretty much gone.

The Clinique Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer, on the other hand, was definitely thicker. As I applied it for another week, it felt almost as if it was stronger due to how heavy it felt–and I definitely don't mean that in a bad way. My face felt pleasantly rejuvenated every morning and I was happy with the results.

However, when it came down to it, I felt that the Olay cream was a little better. Although the thickness of the Clinique cream was nice, overall the non-greasy fluffiness of the cheaper cream really worked to its advantage. In fact, I felt that my wrinkles disappeared much faster (and more efficiently) with the cheaper cream. Although the Clinique cream was great, for me it just didn't seem to be quite worth the money. All in all, I was fairly happy with this week's overnight anti-aging creams but the "save" option was definitely better than the "splurge" one.
