Step 1: Begin by taking a medium-sized round eyeshadow brush like EcoTools Bamboo Eye Shading Brush ($4) to apply a light shimmery gray shadow, like MAC Eyeshadow in Forgery ($15), in the area slightly above the crease of the lid, blending all the way down to the lash line.

Step 2: Then layer on a dark gray shadow, like Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Charcoal ($21) over the lid and into the crease and carefully blend.

Step 3: Trace your upper lash lines with a soft black eyeliner pencil like Lancôme Le Crayon Khol Smoky Eyeliner in Black Ebony ($25). Gently smudge the lines using a cotton swab or an eyeshadow smudge brush.

Step 4: The take a small eyeshadow brush like Sephora Collection Classic Small Synthetic Eyeshadow Brush ($13) and press the charcoal shade under your lower lash lines and smudge for a more dramatic smoky effect.

Step 5: Finish off the look by piling on two of three coats of a black lengthening mascara like CoverGirl Natureluxe Mousse Mascara in Very Black ($9).
