Have some green tea

Applying cool, dampened green tea bags to your eyes is a great way to fight dark and puffy eyes. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants that work to shrink swelling that could be caused by blood vessels around the eyes that many times promote dark circles. For a quicker fix, try an eye cream that includes green tea as one of its ingredients, like Alba Hawaiian Green Tea Eye Gel ($14).

Get some sleep

While this may not be the problem for everyone that struggles with dark circles, for some all they need is full night of shut-eye. For a good night, doctors normally recommend sleeping at least 8 hours. A sleeping mask can also help you fall asleep and works to block out any light that might otherwise keep you up.

Live a healthy lifestyle

Dark under eyes could sometimes be a result of a poor diet. If you haven’t already, make sure to always eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Also, try having at least 8 full glasses of water a day to keep your skin bright and healthy.

Get some vitamin C

Dark circles could also be a result of a vitamin C deficiency. Look for an eye cream that includes vitamin C, such as Perricone MD Vitamin C Eye Serum ($55). This anti-aging formula not only brightens under eyes, but also promotes tissue growth and repairs the production of collagen leaving the skin around your eyes smooth and firm.

Find a concealer that treats & covers

Most concealers do a good job at covering dark circles. But who wants to always rely on their makeup to look good? Instead opt for a concealer that not only covers dark circles, but that works to visibly reduce them over time. Try Giorgio Arman Maestro Eraser Concealer ($40).  For a cheaper fix, try Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Erase Dark Circle Treatment Concealer ($9).

Make sure to properly remove makeup

Whenever I do a lazy job at removing my eye makeup, I almost always wake up the next morning with dark circles. These days I use eye makeup remover wipes like Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes ($7) to get the job done. These gentle wipes quickly and effectively remove any trace of makeup, even waterproof mascara!

See a dermatologist

If you’ve tried every remedy and eye cream in the book, your dark circles might just be genetic. Talk to your dermatologist about some other options you can try. While laser surgery is quite effective, it’s also painful, expensive and can take weeks to heal. But fillers like Restylane and Juverderm can help cover up melanin or the blood vessels that peak through the thin skin around your eyes.
