Shoegasmico: Sara Ramirez’s royalty-inspired pumps are amazing

Tassels are more often times associated with curtains than anything else–but Sara Ramirez proved that this fabric decoration can be quite fashionable at the Disney Channel's Sofia The First: Once Upon a Princess movie premiere at Walt Disney Studios in California last week. Ramirez, who does the voice for Sofia's mom, Miranda, seemed to have been royally-inspired by her recent role because her pumps certainly looked fit for a queen. The Grey's Anatomy star dressed up her casual leather jacket and skinny black pants with these pretty high heels, making them the highlight of her entire look.

As unique as they may seem, these aren't the first shoes to receive the tassel treatment. Tassel shoes have been around for hundreds of years, but they became popular during the post World War II era of the 1940s, when tassel loafers for men were first introduced. It was a shoe that originally symbolized classic elegance and prestigious status, which would explain why tassel fashion today still seems to give off a pretty fancy vibe.

I've seen tassel details on everything lately: necklaces, earrings, loafers, but this is the first time it really stood out to me. Maybe because unlike the usual leather fringe tassels we're so used to seeing, Ramirez's features a long, stringy upholstery tassel that you normally don't find on fashionable pumps.

I've never been much of a fan of this little decorative element, but Ramirez's shoes really have me considering giving the tassel trend a shot. They just seem to have a very classic and elegant feel to them. I'm pretty sure the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, owns at least one pair of shoes that features a tassel. Plus, doesn't every woman deserve to feel like a queen once in a while?
