6 Amazing makeup tips for girls with glasses

Our editorial assistant, Giselle (pictured here), had recently asked me for some tips on how to get her makeup right behind her lenses. This got me thinking about glasses and makeup, and how I myself ditched my frames for contacts when I was twelve, because I didn't know how to wear the two together. But luckily for Giselle and all the spectacle-wearing chicas out there, specs are super hot these days–and there are definitely ways to get your makeup just right to complement them, rather than compete with them. Check out a few of my tips below to help you channel your inner nerdy chick in complete style!

1. Less is more. Your lenses already draw enough attention to your eyes, so you don't have to go all out with smoky dark eyes or super bright shadows. Instead, choose a neutral shade like CoverGirl Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow in Champagne ($4).

2. Line up your eyes. Eyeliner is not really an option in this case, especially if you have a prescription that makes your eyes look smaller. Your liner should be consistent with your frame size. If you're sporting big, thick frames, opt for a thicker liner, using a liquid formula on your top lash line. If your glasses are thinner like Giselle's, go for a natural-looking pencil liner in a soft, brown shade, like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Mahogany ($24). Make sure to line both your upper lash lines and lower eye rims.

3. Please use mascara. To really make your eyes pop, apply two coats of a lengthening mascara, like Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lengthening Mascara in Blackest Black ($8). You want to stay away from volumizing mascaras because your lenses can accentuate and magnify any clumps.

4. Groom eyebrows. Glasses tend to draw attention to your brows, so make sure to keep them nice and neat! After plucking, waxing, or threading (whatever you do) sweep on some clear mascara or eyebrow gel to keep hairs in place. Fill in sparse spots with a brow pencil like Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil ($22).

5. Brighten up. Lenses can also add shadows and emphasize your under eye area, so make sure to keep things light by dabbing on a smooth and brightening (non-cakey) concealer to correct any dark circles. Try Sephora Smoothing & Brightening Concealer ($14). You can also add on a little bit of a transculent or shimmery powder to create a light reflective effect!

6. Paint your pout. Apply a lip stain or lipstick in a fun, bright color like red, pink, melon or berry to add a pretty, feminine touch to your look. I love NARS Lipstick in Funny Face ($24). This bold pink lip color adds an instant pop!
