Being a curly-haired chica myself, I was pretty excited to see Eva Mendes recently sporting tight ringlets for her new latest role in the HBO film, Clear History (also starring Kate Hudson and Jon Hamm). Mendes' bouncy, polished tresses are definitely a major departure from the soft, and wavy styles we normally see her wearing. I have to admit, though, she looks pretty darn cute with her ultra-curly 'do! I'm curious to know whether or not a perm is behind her new style–which by the way, doesn't have to always be the case! Last I checked, perms were a thing of the 90s, and I don't see them coming back anytime soon. So if you love curly hair, but weren't born with it, don't worry! There are definitely a few ways you can replicate this look without having to go permanent. Check out a few tips below to get those luscious locks you always dreamed of!

Step 1: This look works best with clean, moisturized hair. So start off by washing your hair normally and let it air dry.
Step 2: Apply a curl boosting spray or mousse, like Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse ($5) from roots to ends. Then flip your head upside down and begin scrunching your hair to create some body and texture.
Step 3: Once hair is completely air-dried, apply a heat protective spray, like John Frieda Full Repair Heat-Activated Styling Spray ($10). Afterwards, wrap 1-inch sections of hair around a 1-inch curling iron or thinner (depending on how tight you want your ringlets). If you find that your curls are coming out tighter than you wanted, gently run your fingers through them to loosen them up.
Step 4: To tame flyaways and pump up the shine, apply a palm-sized amount of hair oil, like Shu Uemura Essence Absolute Nourishing Protective Oil ($68) to your strands. This will leave your curls incredibly soft and shiny!
Step 5: Finish off the look with a strong, but flexible hairspray that will help keep your hair bouncy all day. I love L'Oréal Elnett Strong Hold Satin Hairspray ($15).
