5 super easy steps to smoldering smoky eyes, like La La Vazquez Anthony

If there's one eye makeup look that never goes out of style, its definitely the smoky eye! I absolutely loved the way La La Vazquez Anthony sported this sexy look at BET's Black Girls Rock event last week. The edgy style complemented both her big green eyes and her chic, polished updo.

For a deep, dramatic effect, go for black, brown, or gray smoky eyes like La La's. Dark shades are perfect for evening and really work to intensify eyes, making them appear larger. The key to getting this look just right is proper blending. Best part? It looks great on everyone and goes with just about anything! It's super simple to recreate too! Check out a few of my tips below to get the look yourself:

Step 1: To make this look as easy as possible to achieve, start off by using a three-color eyeshadow palette like, Dior 3 Couleurs Smokey Ready-To-Wear Smoky Eyes Palette in Smoky Black ($48) or Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow in Impeccable Greys ($5). Prime your lid by using an eyeshadow primer like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original ($20) to create a smooth base for your shadow.

Step 2: Sweep the medium shade from your palette all over your lid to create your base color using an eyeshadow brush or applicator.

Step 3: Apply the darkest shade in the palette all over your lid and into the crease, blending the color upward. Then, take your lighter neutral shadow and dust it over your brow bone, making sure to continue to blend.

Step 4: Take a black pencil liner and trace your top lash line from the inner corner to the outer. Use the same pencil to trace under your lower lashes. Using an eyeshadow brush smudger or a cotton ball swap, smudge both lash lines to create a smoky and dramatic effect.

Step 5: For some extra oomph, apply two coats of a deep, dark mascara like Lancôme Definicils Mascara in Deep Black ($26).
