As we all know, ponytails are no longer just an after-the-gym style. The classic ponytail has totally reinvented itself, proving that it can work as both a casual look and as the perfect-party hairdo! I was super inspired by the super sleek, straight ponytails at the Versus Spring 2013 Milian Fashion Week show, created by Redken Creative Consultant, Guido. Long strands were very tightly pulled back into smooth, shiny ponys with a thin piece of hair wrapped around the base, acting as a hair band.
These high ponytails are really starting to become my favorite quick hair fix. They're so simple yet so very chic and sophisticated. Check out a few of Guido's expert tips below to create this style yourself!

Step 1: Start off with dry hair blow-dried straight and then apply a strong hold gel, like Redken Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel ($17), to small sections of hair throughout the crown.
Step 2: Right after applying the gel, gather hair into a high ponytail right at the crown of the head and secure with an elastic.
Step 3: Now, take a small section of hair out from under the ponytail and wrap it around the base to cover the elastic. This will create more structure and give the style more sex appeal.
Step 4: Apply a smoothing serum all over the head to smooth and add shine. I like L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Super Sleek Intense Serum ($8).
Step 5: Flat iron the entire ponytail in different sections until it's stick straight.
Step 6: Finish off the look with a strengthening hairspray on the crown and pony to catch any fly-aways for a sleek finish. Try Frederic Fekkai COIFF Sheer Hold Hairspray ($10). I like it because it strongly holds without leaving your hair stiff or sticky.
