Get an elegant ponytail with these 7 super easy steps!

There's nothing like a nice, polished ponytail for a fun, flirty look! Well, the glamorous retro-inspired inspired ones at the Ermanno Scervino Spring/ Summer 2013 Milian Fashion Week show sure fit that description! Gabriele Trezzi for Moroccanoil was behind the look, creating chic and feminine ponytails that perfectly highlighted the collection. "I wanted an elegant and refined hairstyle, but at the same time with an image that could transmit true grit and modernity," says Guido. "My fantasy took me to the legendary 1960s, all feminine and glamorous, but revisited in a fresher and more contemporary note with a brand new sense of movement."

I love the way the hair was sleek and smooth in the front, but slightly teased above the pony. It's sophisticated but super simple to do. Check out  Guido's tips below to get this look yourself at home!

Step 1: Before styling, apply a small amount of an oil treatment  like Moroccanoil Treatment Light ($42) to achieve a soft base that is naturally healthy and shiny.

Step 2: Apply a curly mousse to create a base and structure to hair. I like Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse ($4). Then dry hair carefully using a blow-dryer  and ion ceramic round brush.

Step 3: Once the hair is completely dry, spray the entire head with with a luminous or shine boosting hairspray. Try, Dove Style + Care Strength & Shine Hairspray Extra Hold ($5).

Step 4: With the base now ready, begin to create the hairstyle by making a deep part on the left side and dividing the hair into three sections. Then take a medium curling iron and start to curl the hair into intense waves. Then brush through waves with a padded brush to create a soft, sensual effect.

Step 5: To create volume at the back of the head, tease the hair just above the nape with rapid but light movements. Then fix it up using some more hairspray. "The aim was to achieve a pleasing contrast: sexy and soft at the back, rigid and precise at the front," says Guido.

Step 6: Finish off the look by gathering the hair into a low ponytail, soft yet structured, letting it fall backwards in soft waves. Keep the hair flat and smooth at the front, pulling the longest curls of hair back to cover the ears.

Step 7: Finally secure the look using a medium hold hairspray for a look that's still light and natural. Try Aveda Brilliant Medium Hold Hairspray ($18).
