Woman avoids mirrors for an ENTIRE year! (VIDEO)

Can you imagine going a day without looking in the mirror? Well, Kjersten Gruy, a 29-year-old Ph.D. student in sociology, went an entire year avoiding her own reflection! The young woman, who has struggled with body image and eating disorders, d__ecided to swear off mirrors as an exercise in self-confidence.__

She did everything from brushing her teeth, inserting her contacts to even applying her makeup without making a slight glimpse at her reflection. That's skills right there! Kjersten even turned around in dressing rooms to avoid looking at herself in the mirror whenever she went wedding dress shopping. Talk about determination!

My mamá always told me growing up a that little bit of vanity won't hurt anyone. But I couldn't help but wonder, if a woman had to go an entire year mirror-free to help boost her self-esteem, does that mean that most of us women spend way too much time trying to achieve external perfection?

I for one was extremely inspired by Kjersten's project. Whatever you need to do to work on yourself and boost up your confidence, by all means, go ahead! But at the same time I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to doll yourself up either. While I have my days where I leave the house bare-faced, I also have times when I'm fully decked in makeup. It all depends on how I'm feeling that day.

I think like with everything else in life, it's important to find a balance. No, you don't want to live your life obsessing over the way you look, but looking good many times affects the way we feel and perform. At the end of the day, there's no harm in being a little vain, as long as you always remember that there's more to you than just your looks!
