Save or splurge? Volumizing mascaras

I take mascara pretty seriously; it's the one beauty product I absolutely can't go without! I mean, isn't it a total makeup bag must-have?

A great mascara creates the illusion of eight full hours of sleep, resulting in a fresh and wide awake look. My lashes are naturally long and thick, so whenever I'm buying mascara, I'm looking for super dramatic results. With that said, I don't usually like having to cough up twenty bucks or more to get my lashes looking the way I want. But if it's going to give me falsie-looking lashes, I'd consider the splurge. This week I tested out a department store mascara against a drugstore mascara. The contenders: Too Faced LashGasm Mascara ($21) versus Rimmel Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara ($7).

Read on for my results!

Too Faced LashGasm mascara does everything I want a mascara to do. The voluptuous, fluffing formula conditioned my lashes while it thickened, resulting in dramatically long looking lashes. I have to admit that at first I was a little worried about the wand. It includes multiple rows of flexible-but-firm bristles that grabbed each and every lash, leaving my lashes completely clump-free! Unlike most volumizing mascaras, this one didn't flake or dry out my lashes. The best part is that only one coat of mascara seemed to do the trick. I normally have to put on two coats to receive intense results. This honest-to-God has to be the best mascara I've ever tried! In fact, a few people asked if I had falsies on. The verdict? This $21 mascara for me, is totally worth the splurge!

Now if you're looking to spend less, then Rimmel's Volume Flash Scandal Mascara might be a better buy for you. My lashes did appear longer and thicker, but with a name like Volume Flash, I was expecting much more volume. I had to apply three coats to get the results that I wanted. A plus? The formula seemed light-weight and the texture, unlike most drugstore mascaras, didn't seem stiff or crunchy. Also, because this mascara is waterproof I experienced no smudging, which was amazing!
