If there's one thing Sofia Vergara always has right, it's her makeup! The Modern Family star is usually seen with flawless, natural looking makeup, so I loved that she switched it up for the 2012 Emmy Awards, sporting a pretty brown pout! "Sofia and I wanted to do something different on her lips, so we chose a shade that she never used before," said makeup artist Kayleen McAdam, whose inspiration for the look was chocolate and caramel.
McAdam tested different lipsticks on her arm until they finally came up with the perfect color. This look can be hard to pull off if you don't use the right shade for your skintone. Check out a few tips below on how to make this look work for you!

Step 1: Start off by exfoliating lips using a lip scrub like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish ($23) to buff away any dry flakes. Then apply a conditioning lip treatment like Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment ($14) to moisturize.
Step 2: Fill in lips with a rich medium brown lipstick. McAdam applied CoverGirl LipPerfection Lip Color in Captivate ($7) to Sofia's pout, which works perfect for fair complexions. I like Maybelline Colorsensational Lipcolorsensational Lipcolor in Warm Latte ($8) for medium or tan skintones like mine. For darker complexions, opt for a medium brown lipstick with a purplish tint like, Bobbi Brown Lipcolor in Rum Raisin ($24).
Step 3: After the lipstick is applied, go over the edge of lips using a soft, medium brown liner to fill them out and keep the lipstick in place.
Step 3: "I wanted the lips to look like caramel, so I added a little gloss," said McAdam who topped it all off with CoverGirl Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Sugar & Spice ($6) just in the center of the lips.
Step 4: Fix any smudges with a fine-point cotton swab and make sure to carry that lip gloss in your purse to keep your look fresh all night!
