Get Michelle Obama’s purplish gray manicure from her 2012 DNC speech!

We couldn't take our eyes off First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday night as she gave her inspiring, heart-warming speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. Though we were all captivated by the first lady's speech, once again we couldn't help but take notice of her fierce and unconventional fashion sense! Ms. Obama took the stage in a custom-made Tracy Reese dress paired with "rhubarb" heels from J.Crew. But what really made her look pop was her now-famous purply gray polish that had media sites and Twitter fans raving for days! The popular shade has officially been confirmed by the White House to be a gel polish called "Vogue," made by Artistic Nail Design, which will surely be flying off the shelves in a matter of seconds! So in case you don't get your hands on that polish before it sells out, check out a few of my tips below to replicate the look!

Get the shade: Looking for a similar color? Try OPI polish in "I Don't Give a Rotterdam" or Essie polish in "Merino". Both colors contain a somewhat blue-gray, purple-gray hue. (OPI even released a statemement yesterday speculating that the First Lady's color was their own "I Don't Give a Rotterdam"!)

Prep: The first lady's nails weren't too short or too long and had an oval shape. To achieve the perfect oval shape, take a nail file and file the sides straight, making sure they're even. Then, shape the top into a rounded oval. Apply a base coat, like Butter London Foundation Flawless Basecoat, to nails to prime nails before polish.

Paint: After the base coat dries, apply two coats of the nail polish, rather than one, to give the color a richer look.

Finish: Seal everything with a top coat, like Essie Good To Go Rapid Dry, to prevent chipping.
