The best thing about the start of a new season, for me, is shopping. Ok, so I may be a little bit of a shopaholic but I am legitimately excited that Fall is starting soon. Of course, I'm sad that summer is almost over but if that means I can bring out my boots and scarves, then more power to the changing of the seasons!
However, as I looked through my closet this past weekend, I realized that I am committing a major fashion sin: I am holding on to some clothes that I STILL have never worn. I don't just mean that prom dress that I haven't worn in 10 years, I mean something that I fell in love with, bought and somehow inexplicably kept in the back of my closet. Well, this year I've decided that it's time for a clothes swap! Instead of holding on to old favorites I've yet to actually put on, here's 5 fashions that I need to upgrade ASAP—and where to buy them.

DVF Dress That No Longer Fits

I've owned this Diane von Furstenberg dress for longer than I care to admit. I bought it three and a half years ago at a Barney's Warehouse Sale in NYC. That was about three and a half years and 15 pounds ago. I bought it when I was at my skinniest and I have since regained a bit weight, which I think actually makes me look better. Still, I've never been able to let go of this dress because it's just SO beautiful (and it was SO cheap!). I need to let go, though, and instead buy the Sweet on Repeat Strapless Teal Dress because it has the same basic shape and color and will, you know, actually FIT me! The DvF model will no longer accommodate my booty.

Manolo Blahnik Shoes That Are Not Comfortable

In one of the biggest tragedies of my purchasing years, I was inspired by Sex and the City to buy myself a pair of Manolo Blahniks. The shoes are classic Mary Janes and a very pretty bronze color. The only problem? They were NEVER comfortable. The heel is just too tiny for me and I could never walk more than five steps in them. I think if I got rid of them and bought these Mary Jane-style Leather Wedges instead, it would be a MUCH more worthwhile investment.

The Sparkly Pink Bra That Doesn't Go With Anything

I honestly can't even begin to describe the madness that overcame me when I bought this two-tone pink bejeweled bra from Victoria's Secret. I mean, I love me some VS brassieres (they're SO comfy!) but this one? Um, no. It's not that the bra isn't a great fit or that it's not really, really pretty, just that I have yet to find an occasion to wear such a thing. Really, what was I thinking?! Instead, I should go for this Living in Lovely Bralette that has the same pretty-in-pink-lace but is actually a much more functional (and jewels-less) version.

A Beautiful Beach Hat That Doesn't Actually Match

I bought this pretty pink beach hat (with some cute flowers on the side) last summer. I was in love with it instantly and I was insanely confident in my decision. I mean, it's so beautiful! How could I not wear it all the time? Well, here's the issue: I am a little bit anal when it comes to coordinating and matching my wardrobe and it turns out that this one doesn't go with ANY of my bathingsuits. They were all in the black-white-red color palette and it just was a major fail. Ugh! Next time I'm just going to buy a classic Summer Straw Hat.

This Vest That Was Just... Plain... Wrong...

I admit: I didn't actually buy this vest. A friend convinced me that it was super cute and gave it to me because she didn't want it anymore. I gladly accepted it, thinking it would be a fun new addition to my current wardrobe. The big problem is that I don't really tend to wear vests and the few vests that I do have are of the sexier-fit variety. And so, I've never put this one on because, to be honest, it's sort of a boring color too! I think I'd like to buy this Herringbone Vest, instead.
