Frida Kahlo goes high fashion!

I've always been totally fascinated by Frida Kahlo. Ever since I was a little girl. I think it stemmed from my general obsession with art, especially female artists when I was younger. As I grew up and learned about all the hardship Frida faced throughout her life and how she handled all her setbacks by creating this intensely moving art, something just struck a nerve with me.

A few years ago, I got my hands on a book called Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress: Frida's Wardrobe. As I poured over it and took in the intimate pictures of her favorite clothes, it hit me that gettind dressed was another way in which Frida demonstrated her unique sense of style and individuality. Which is why the fact that Vogue Mexico did an entire photo shoot dedicated to Frida felt right to me.

I'm not sure Frida would've ever read Vogue–I'm pretty confident in the fact that she had absolutely no interest in following trends or current styles. But either way, I think she would have loved the fact that her famed Casa Azul–the residence she shared for years with fellow artist Diego Rivera–was used as a backdrop to create new, modern art.

So, in her death, Frida Kahlo has truly gone high fashion. It makes sense as her intensely ethnic style, chunky jewelry and even trademark braided updo have been staples for trendy fashionistas stateside for years. Check out the gorgeous video below!
