Coming out of winter and into the warmer weather is usually a pleasant experience. But when your skin is suffering, nothing feels quite right. There are harsh winds and cold temperatures that your skin has just had to endure, so you might not be quite ready to bare it all in the warmer temperature. 1. Remove all of your dry, winter skin. The first thing you have to do is get rid of all of the dry skin leftover from the harsh winter colds. The best way to do this is to start by gently exfoliating two to three times a week with a sugar scrub. You can buy one in stores but making your own is even easier! Simply combine a cup of sugar with some vegetable oil until it forms a paste-like substance. Then simply towel sky and apply your favorite moisturizing lotion or cream.
2. Take precautions so you don't break out. One thing that you always have to watch out for in the summer is breaking out, both on your face and on the rest of your body. Breaking out on your back and chest is something I know all too well, so take the proper precautions by using a body wash that has salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These will help prevent those breakouts. Also make sure that you're switching out your sponge frequently so that oil doesn't collect.
3. Switch up your moisturizer routine. Your skin has different needs in the summer than in the winter. In the winter, it's best to use a heavy-duty moisturizer to retain as much moisture as possible. But in the summer you're sweating more, so you need something much lighter. In these warmer months, try out a new moisturizer that has cooling properties, like something with aloe vera. It will help keep you feeling perfectly refreshed all summer long.
4. Don't forget to take care of your feet. While wearing closed shoes in the winter, you tend to ignore your feet and heels. To prepare your feet for a perfect summer pedicure, one night prepare a DIY salt scrub (same as a sugar scrub) to begin exfoliating. I like to also take a pedicure brush to scrub off dead skin, then put on a foot lotion and socks overnight. In the morning, wash as normal and apply a lightweight lotion. Do this once a week to keep your heels feeling soft.
