I've never been one of those people that took a photo on one side, then switched to the other and spend hours trying to decide which is best. But that doesn't mean that I still don't have a side of my face that I kind of favor.
It didn't really happen intentionally, it's just that I like to part my hair on a particular side and therefore take photos emphasizing the way my bangs fall on the opposite site. Apparently I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, since a new study has just proven that your left side is actually scientifically your prettiest side.

The new study was conducted by Kelsey Blackburn and James Schirillo from Wake Forest University. In it they proved that images of the left side of the face are perceived and rated as more pleasant than pictures of the right side of the face. Why? According to ScienceDaily.com, it may be "due to the fact that we present a greater intensity of emotion on the left side of our face." Meanwhile, the study authors explain:
Our results suggest that posers' left cheeks tend to exhibit a greater intensity of emotion, which observers find more aesthetically pleasing. Our findings provide support for a number of concepts — the notions of lateralized emotion and right hemispheric dominance with the right side of the brain controlling the left side of the face during emotional expression.
Well, I never thought it would be that easy to make all of my photos look better, but really appreciate science for doing all the hard work! Now besides making my family photos more fun I'll also make sure that we're all showing our left side—the best side—and smiling, knowing that our photo will come out great.
