Academy Awards 2012 designer dress predictions (and other guesses)

The Academy Awards are like the Super Bowl of televised awards shows. Sure, I'm still sort of grumpy about the lack of diversity in the nominees–but I'm super excited about seeing if Chico & Rita will actually win the Oscar for Best Animated film!

I'm also dying to see what Javier and Penelope wear to grace the red carpet, or if Zoe Saldana finally accompanies Bradley Cooper out for a public date night (he's presenting an award).

But we all know the real reason all of us are watching: To see what everyone is wearing! Here are my dress predictions for the some of the Latina actresses presenting at the 2012 Academy Awards:

__

Jennifer Lopez
__La Lopez always goes for drama on major red carpets and we're sure this year will not be much different. If she wants to channel the statuette itself, she can opt for this sleek gold sequined Naeem Khan number. But for real drama you need some color, that's why I LOVE this bright orange Juan Carlos Obando dress for her! If she'd rather go voluminous, like she did last year, then she can rock this design by Christhian Siriano featuring dreamy faux angel wings (she's been super into playing up her shoulders lately).

__

Cameron Diaz
__Diaz has a history of being more adventurous on the red carpet so I'm hoping she turns to some of the more modern designers this year like this Donna Karan black and white tuxedo dress or the rique Reem Acra with sexy cutouts. But if she decides to keep it light and bubbly like her personality, then she can opt for this gorgeous frothy blue and black Oscar de la Renta. Not many chicas could pull it off, but I'm sure Cameron can!

__

Penelope Cruz
__Penelope rocked what is likely my favorite Oscar dress of all time when wore her vintage Balmain (that she'd owned for years!) to pick up her 2009 Academy Award. It was perfection. I'm feeling like this might be the year that the lovely Mrs. Bardem will rock long sleeves, a trend that has been picking up steam over the last few months on the red carpet. I love both the Elli Saab super romantic option at far left, as well as the Michael Kors, bright red, sexy siren option. But if she goes sweet again, she should check out this Carolina Herrera sequined number!
