What's particularly awesome about makeup trends is that no matter what your budget is, you can be on trend. We can't all afford to by a new trendy wardrobe every season so we usually limit ourselves to an item here and an item there to update our closets. But makeup updates can cost you as little or as much as you are willing to spend. Some of the newest trends don't even require you to buy anything new. You can create them with the makeup you already own.
Before you browse through this gallery of gorgeous celebrities, remember that it's not about trying to copy their looks or look like them. Nope, it's about checking out fresh looks to change up your own look. Take some inspo from one celeb and make it YOU. You are the star of your life. Sheesh, we're sure these celebrities would be just as inspired by you as you are by them. Have fun being beautiful this spring and always because you are gorgeous even if you don't have any makeup on. Believe it!
Get your shine on!
Jennifer Lopez is the queen of glowing, dewy skin. She’s been doing it for ages and this spring everyone is going to take a page out of her look book. How can you embrace shine? You may not need to glam it up quite as much as J.Lo for your everyday look, but add a bit of opalescent shimmer and shine to your lips, eyes, and face.
Glossy lips are a great way to shine.
Not sure how to add shine to your makeup routine? A super easy way is to go with glossy lips. You could go for a clear lip gloss and call it a day or do like Demi Lovato and layer color and gloss on your lips.
Smoky metallics are another way to work some shine into your life.
Kourtney Kardashian shows us that smoky metallics are a great way to shimmer. You can pair them with a high-gloss nude lip to keep the shine on high. This would be a great date night option. But if you want to wear it to the grocery store, who are we to stop you?
When in doubt, go with a fresh face and bold lip.
The former telenovela star and up-and-coming Hollywood darling Melissa Barrera knows how to work the whole fresh face with a bold lip look. This is such an easy look for any mom to steal. Instead of piling your hair up on top of your head, do a sleek low bun, keep your makeup minimal and go with a bright color on that gorgeous mouth of yours.
Get a little funky with your eyeliner.
You see how Vida actress Mishel Prada did a kind of free-floating eyeliner thing? Get ready to see more examples of this trend this spring. Try it out yourself with eyeliners you already own. If you have any fun colored eyeliners, this would be a perfect way to use them.
Don't be afraid to be catty!
You can call it retro, winged, or whatever–the point is that cat eyes are in for spring. Julissa Calderon of the Netflix show Gentefied does this look proud. If this is a look you've always rocked, keep on rocking it. If it's not something you usually do during the day, what are you waiting for? Use eyeliner to give yourself wings, so you can fly.
Speaking of retro, go forward with it!
We love the way America Ferrera did her eyes for the SAG Awards. She had the whole winged eyeliner look with a strong retro vibe going on and it's fantastic. It was like an Audrey Hepburn look that didn't appear costumey. Technically "costumey" isn't a word, but you know what we mean.
Selena Gomez can do no wrong.
Do red lips every go out of style? We don’t think so, but even though they are classic, they are also on trend for spring. Find a shade of red that makes you feel as happy and fabulous as Selena Gomez looks in this picture.
Channel your inner goth goddess.
Goth lips in spring? You better believe it. Check out a version of this trend on makeup mogul Kylie Jenner. It’s a dark look land yet, somehow it feels fresh and perfect for spring. If this shade is too brown for you, go for something a bit more the shade of a dark sangria. The trick to making it look current is to not too go to pale with the rest of your face.
Can you even do spring without pastels?
Pastel colors for spring aren’t revolutionary or anything, but they work. Think pinks, light blues, greens, and purples. Rhianna’s take on the trend is stunning. The lavender shades make her eyes look phenomenal. You could do something similar with pinks that's less boudoir and more book club.
Don’t be afraid to combine trends.
Check out Kim Kardashian’s eyes. She’s got the winged eyeliner, pastel eye shadow, and free-floating eyeliner combo going on and it works on her. Perhaps you could do a similar combo for yourself when you are feeling like having all eyes on you.
Oh, the things you can do under your eyes.
Speaking of pastels. Using pastel colors to line under your eyes is very of the moment. Khloé Kardashian nails the trend here. You can do it with any of your favorite pastel eye shadows. Even colors you might not think of as optimal for lining your eyes can look incredible when given the chance.
Let yourself be playful.
See that white dot in the corner of Kylie Jenner’s eye? This spring adding interest with a dot or star or sticker or doodle is where it’s at. Let yourself have fun and don’t take your makeup so seriously. Express yourself in all your quirky wonderfulness.
Embellish, embellish, and then embellish some more.
This is what we mean by let yourself have fun. Do you see how Marsai Martin of Black-ish fame, did the whole pastel and fun embellishments around the eyes thing? She's only 15, so you might think that's why it looks so good on her, but you don't have to outgrow fun.
Do a variation on this lewk.
Demi Lovato shared this photo in August 2019 and captioned it, "Love this lewk." We're resharing it because it's so in keeping with the whole embellishment trend. Use it to inspire you to add some glitter, glam, and unexpected touches to your eye makeup.
Yes, you'll be seeing a lot of color and white.
You might want to buy yourself some white eyeliner to experiment with it this season. You can use it to line your lower water line like Lady Gaga did here. You can also draw some free-floating forms on your lids like dots or whatevs.
Neon ain't going anywhere, so you can take it everywhere.
You can take neon makeup looks anywhere you want this spring because they ain't going anywhere any time soon. Meaning neon continues to go strong. So, if neon makes you feel electric in a good way, go for it. We love this neon green eye shadow on Alison Brie. It brings out the glow in the GLOW actress.
Chiquis Rivera and her sister Jenicka Lopez are in it to win it.
Chiquis opted for a fun color for under her eyes and some white to emphasize the look in the outer corners. Jenicka has taken the whole winged eyeliner look to new levels. They both look great and on trend. Just goes to show that when it comes to trends, you don't have to do them all. You can pick the ones that suit your tastes.
Don't be afraid to clash.
Purple eyeshadow and orange lips aren't really a standard color combo. In a way they kind of clash. But actress Tracee Ellis Ross knows that clashing is in. Fun unexpected color combinations are having a moment and we are so here for it.
Above all else, be-you-tiful!
Listen, if none of the 2020 spring makeup trends work for you, don't sweat it. You do you. Opt for a classic makeup look like classic beauty Salma Hayek does here. Being true to yourself is a trend that will never go out of style.
