I know I'm not the only one who loved Shakira's dark hair back in her Pies Descalzos days. Something about it made her look so cool. Sort of like a badass rocker chick. But I had no idea that a ton of her fans (especially Latinas) prefer her as a brunette over a blonde. Shaki had a chat with Glam Belleza Latina magazine about why she loves having lighter hair. Wait until you hear what she had to say about it!

I think it's fair to say that Shakira has pretty much tried every possible hair color out there. Brown, black, blood red, a caramel-y copper shade at one point and of course, her signature blonde strands. But what's made her stick to lighter locks and for so long? Well, despite what some might assume, to Shakira, "it's just a color." She also doesn't see how her having blonde hair makes her any less Latina.
"I like that blond hair gives a lot of light onstage and makes my face pop a little more," she told the magazine. "The dark hair made me look more goth. And besides, how many blonde Latinas are there in the world?! Hello!" SO true!
Shaki's fans should know by now that Latinas come in all shapes, shades and hair colors, so rocking blonde hair shouldn't make her look less Latina. And trust me, she puts hard work and pays good money to get that hair to look the way that it does. "It takes dedication! I try not to use products that have alcohol in them, which can dry out my hair," she said. "I try to use serums with natural oils, along with sulfate-free shampoo. I've had really bad colorists who have burned my hair many times … there are stories, and tears, and sweat behind my hair, for real!"
Shakira looks gorgeous regardless of what she does to her hair. The girl is so stunning she'd probably still look good even if she were bald. But I'm not going to lie, I'll always miss dark-haired Shakira!
