This really goes to show that you should always keep a watchful eye on your kids while they play. Last month, Gardell Martin, a toddler from Pennsylvania, was playing with his two brothers when he accidently slipped on melted snow and fell in his neighborhood creek. The water temperature was beyond frigid and the stream carried the 22-month-old a quarter mile away from his home. What happened next was truly an act of a higher power.

A neighbor found him a half hour later, face down while stuck on a branch. His frantic mother called 911 when she noticed that all three of her sons didn't return safely. What doctors were able to do to save this boy's life is really a miracle! Little Gardell was completely lifeless when he was first discovered by first responders. His mother Rose Martin told NBC, "I knew there was help on the way. I gathered the rest of the children around me and we prayed."
Her prayers were heard. At the scene, medical staff performed CPR. Once he arrived to the hospital, doctors continued performing CPR and made sure to bring his body temperature back up to normal. They inserted a breathing tube into his body to ensure that fresh oxygen was going into his lungs. They also treated him with warm saline solution pumped into his stomach, bladder and bloodstream. Little Gardell was brought back to life after not having a heartbeat for 30 minutes.
I hope his mother is more protective over her kids and makes sure to tell this story whenever they wander off to play. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
