Rainbow parties are a new teen trend: What every parent needs to know

I guess playing video and board games with friends is no longer enough to entertain some teens. A new party theme has cropped up and it sounds much more innocent than it really is. Rainbow parties, as they're called, is the latest sexual game that's popular amongst teenagers and you'll be shocked to hear how this little colorful gathering received its name.

When getting ready for a Rainbow Party, teenage girls will paint their lips in a bright color so that they make their mark on the penises of any male attendees. The contest goes that the guy with the most colors painted on his member wins the title for the night. Teens organize and then promote these blow job parties via social media and drugs and alcohol are often present at these gatherings. Not only that, but sexual assaults, risk of rape, and the transfer of sexually transmitted diseases or unwanted pregnancies due to the lack of protection and contraceptives run high at these parties.

A rainbow party sounds fun and innocent. It conjures up images of colorful costumes, confetti, and lights, but the theme has a much darker meaning. My mind can hardly wrap itself around all these sexual things that teens are getting themselves wrapped into because at that age I was only concerned with getting good grades, making my parents proud, and not coming home pregnant and shaming the family!

I wonder whether their parents have any idea what mess their daughter is getting herself into and how many of them succumb to peer pressure just to be cool. And it's not just on the girls, but on the boys as well. Since when is it okay to subject a girl to your sexual demands just to show off and feel worthy? We have to raise better men and women. We have to teach our children–both male and female–that connecting with others is about more than just sex. It's about respect and being completely aware and responsible for your actions and consequences, not just a cheap party trick for five minutes of fame and the possibility of catching something that'll last long after the hangover wears off.
