The measures some women are willing to take just to lose weight is out of control. The latest weight loss fad: The K-E Diet, which involves inserting a feeding tube through your nose and living off of a special liquid solution for 10 days. Tell me that doesn't sound like torture!

The K-E Diet promises to give you real results by helping your body hit a state of ketosis, which is basically when the body starts burning fat at an abnornally fast rate. You're required to wear a portable feeding tube that goes into the nose for 10 full days. The special 800-calorie a day liquid solution consists of vitamins, minerals, proteins, oils and no carbs.
You'd think people would stay away from this insanity, but no. Jeantely Lizalde, a manager of Novopelle Med Spa, is one of the first in Houston to try the diet. "The first couple of days were the hardest just to get used to what was going on, traveling with a bag, getting used to people look at you and say, 'Oh my gosh, what's wrong with her?' " she told ABC 13 News. "And after that, it was easy breezy."
Easy breezy? Lazy-breezy is more like it! Lizalbe claims she dropped 16 pounds and even lost five inches from her waist. But how exactly does this thing work? "The only way that your body can go into ketosis in such a short period of time is for you to be basically for the solution be fed 24 hours a day," says KE-Diet coach Teresa Fernandez.
I'm sorry, but I'm not buying this–and Houston bariatric surgeon Dr. Vadim Sherman apparently isn't either. His main concern is that the diet doesn't give you nearly enough time to do what it claims. So in the end you're actually doing more damage than good.
I've never been a fan of fad diets but what upsets me the most about this one is that I've actually had a few close relatives with terminal illness survive by getting nourished with feeding tubes. So the idea that desperate women are using something designed to keep sick patients alive in efforts to help speed up weight loss is really disturbing. Stop being lazy, eat well, exercise and lose weight the right way for goodness sakes!
