Every year ants try to invade my home. One morning, I will wake up, walk into the kitchen and see armies of them EVERYWHERE and I get so upset because they have to be dealt with or they will get into everything. Now, of course I could pull out insecticides and spray the suckas into oblivion, but I'm not the kind of person that likes to put a film of toxic poison all over her kitchen. Especially since I have two very young kids who love to shove their little fingers into their mouth about 300 times a day. Fortunately there are some natural solutions to get rid of ants.

Lemon juice

Spray areas where ants enter your home or where you have seen them with straight up lemon juice. It messes with their tracking sense.
Chalk

Ants won't cross a line of chalk. I don't know why, but they won't. If you can find where the ants are coming in, draw a line of chalk there to prevent any more from entering. You will still have to deal with the ants that have already made their way in.
Baby powder

I've never actually used baby powder on my kids, but I have used it to deal with ants. If you make an unbroken like of baby powder, ants won't cross it. The only problem is that then you have baby powder all over the place and eventually you will have to vacuum it up.
Cream of Wheat

I've never tried this myself, but I may have to because we always have cream of wheat in the house. Supposedly if you leave it out, the ants eat it, it expands in their stomachs and they explode.
Vinegar

If you mop your floors and clean your counters with a vinegar and water solution it helps a lot. If you can find their actual nest and douse it with vinegar you are golden.
