WATCH heroic man rescues baby from 2nd-story fall

A 1-year-old baby was rescued by a passerby after falling from a second-story window of an apartment building in a southern Chinese city. The moment of rescue was all caught in some very dramatic surveillance footage–and trust me, you won't be able to help but gasp when you see it.

The toddler apparently climbed out on a ledge, looking for his mother during a heavy thunderstorm. Thankfully, a local street vendor was nearby and didn't hesitate before springing into action.

As can be seen in the video below, the vendor, identified only as Mr. Li in local media, runs across the street and holds out his arms when he sees the baby teetering on the ledge. Meanwhile, other residents rush to pile up pieces of cardboard and a sofa on the ground below, hoping to soften his fall. When the boy eventually loses his balance, Li was ready.

"I didn't think too much at the time. I was just afraid of failing to catch him," he told media. Luckily, that wasn't the case. Li was able to catch the boy safely and hand him back off to his frightened mother and both were able to escape the scary ordeal without any injuries.

Wow … I'm so relieved to hear that the little boy is okay and that Li and the other helpers just happened to be in the right place at the right time to save him. There's no doubt that this child would've been seriously injured if they had not been there, so they are truly heroes. It just goes to show that there are some truly great people out there, even strangers, willing to lend a helping hand. I'm just glad it all worked out in this case!
