NYFW: 9 beauty trends that can work on every Latina

I'll be the first to admit that a lot of the beauty looks from New York Fashion Week aren't exactly Latina-friendly, meaning they don't work for our skin tones or our textured hair. But to my surprise, there were actually a lot of wearable trends for Fall 2014 that look great on olive, tan, and brown complexions along with cute hairstyles that work just as well on curly or wavy hair as it would on straight strands. It's about time we see some runway looks that work for us, right?

It looks like big, bold brows are here to stay. Keep them neat and in place with a brow gel, like Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel ($22). Suffer from overly-plucked eyebrows? Don't worry, chica, you can fake fuller ones with a good brow pencil, like Sephora Retractable Waterproof Brow Pencil ($13).

Who says Latinas can't rock purple eyeshadow? The key is too look for a shade that's going to complement your skin tone. I love Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Heather ($24) for medium and dark complexions.

Orange-red lips at DKNY

A red lipstick with an orangey tint brings out the yellow undertones most of us Latinas with olive or darker skin have. Try Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Stiletto ($19).

Super buns at Carolina Herrera

The large, detailed buns at Carolina Herrera were SO Latina! The best way to replicate this look is to flip your head over and pull hair into a high ponytail. Then wrap the ponytail around a Bun Shaper ($5). Secure with bobby pins.

Graphic winged liner at Zac Posen

I'm in love with the cool winged liner designs seen at the Zac Posen runway show. For a similar look, try using a black pen liner, like Dior Liquid Eyeliner ($34).

Bold eyes at Tracy Reese

Celebrity makeup artist and founder of Mally Beauty, Mally Roncal, created the bold and beautiful eyeshadow look inspired by different emotions. She used the rich shades from her Mally Beauty Pro-Tricks Shadow Palette ($50) and they looked especially nice on the brown models.

Dramatic cat eyes at Libertine

What Latina doesn't love herself a smoky eye or cat liner? Well, the makeup look at Libertine included a mix of both. The chic hybrid was created by drawing a thick upturned line right above the lashes and then smudging powder shadow over the top. Try the Laura Mercier Exclusive Smokey Eye Palette ($135). It even comes with brushes and mascara.

Twist 'do at Lela Rose

The twisted do's at Lela Rose work perfect for chicas with curly or wavy hair. Hair was parted in the middle and then fingered teased to create more texture and definition. Sections were twisted back on both sides starting at the top of the part and then tightly joined together into one twist centered at the nape. The twist was then tucked underneath and pinned into a bun shape. The final look was finished with a pearl pin a spritz of Ted Gibson Beautiful Hold Hair Spray ($20).

Braided bangs at Nanette Lepore

Don't want to fuss with your bangs today? Try braiding them! The braids at Nanette Lepore were started at the forehead moving down on the right side of the face. A cute and practical way to deal with a bad bang day.
