My grandmother gave this recipe to me. Or rather, my grandmother, from whom I inherited the love of cooking and the certainty that every recipe and every dish is simply an act of love, used to prepare it because she was one of those women who made good use of and "recycled" everything. She was thrifty, stretched the budget and made us, their children and grandchildren, eat everything.

She put a little sugar and plenty of ice in it and gave us a delicious pineapple refreshment. But she also used to say to me that this was the best natural diuretic that existed and since, besides that, pineapple has anti-inflammatory properties, the more the better.

When I had my C-sections, I drank a lot of pineapple guarapo and I did the same thing when I had to undergo my knee surgeries. Also, if you drink it without sugar, it has no calories. If you want to drink it ice cold and sweet, you can take it with artificial sweetener and chopped ice. If you prefer, you can have it hot, like a tea. The effect is the same.

I love it because I can drink any amount I want, I feel it cleanses me and it has no calories. See the recipe below, just as my grandmother used to make it:

__Pineapple guarapo
__Ingredients for 2.5 liters

The peel of 1 pineapple, washed
3 liters of water
Sugar or artificial sweetener (optional)

Preparation: In a covered pot, boil the water with the pineapple peelings. Let it boil for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. Strain and store in jars with lids. Keep refrigerated. Serve it with ice and sugar, or sweetened with artificial sweetener. This juice keeps up to a week in the refrigerator.
