In an absolutely amazing story, a 53-year-old grandma in Iowa with four kids of her own recently gave birth to her own twin granddaughters.
Susie Kozisek acted as a gestational carrier for her daughter, Ashley Larkin, who has pulmonary hypertension and cannot get pregnant. The embryos for the twins, which had been stored from a previous IVF treatment, were implanted in Koziek's uterus in November 2012–a procedure that the abuela says she first heard about on a talk show.

According to Kozisek, the pregnancy itself was normal and healthy, similar to the ones she experienced with her own kids. She kept active throughout and was even able to continue to work at her job as a legal secretary. When she did go into labor in July, Larkin, who says considers her newborn twins a blessing and a miracle, was in the room. So sweet!
Making the whole thing even more unbelievable? That actually wasn't the first time Kozisek had acted as a gestational carrier for her daughter. Before giving birth to the twins in July, she also carried Larkin's eldest child, Harper, who was born in June 2011.
Isn't that crazy?! This abuela is one truly incredible and generous woman, not to mention brave. Going through the four pregnancies of her own is challenging enough, but to go through two more while in her 50's–one with twins, no less?! She deserves some major credit.
Clearly, Kozisek is an amazing mom who is willing to go to great lengths to ensure her daughter's happiness. Larkin and all of her kids are lucky to have such a loving mother and grandmother in their lives. Congrats to the entire family!
