Many health and fitness enthusiasts love to spit out this popular saying: "Abs are made in the kitchen." The reason they say it is to stress the importance of diet. And that no matter how hard you work in the gym, if you're eating junk, you aren't going to ever look the way you want.
But while I agree with that thought, the saying is all wrong. Because many people are setting themselves up for failure before they even step into the kitchen. Why? Because they're sabotaging themselves at the grocery store! They're making shopping mistakes that makes it almost impossible for them to succeed.
Well, I'm going to clear up the most common errors right now and show you how you can shop yourself slim!

Slimming Shopping Secret #1: Never Go Hungry! One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to go shopping on an empty stomach. When you're hungry, it clouds your judgment and makes you much more likely to buy those impulse junk foods. Try to go shopping early in the day, when you're awake and alert. It will help you make smarter choices.
Slimming Shopping Secret #2: List It Or Leave It. The easiest way to cut down on those unhealthy impulse buys is to make a list–and then stick to it! If it's on the list, get it. If it isn't, leave it in the store. This simple rule will save you a lot of regret.
Slimming Shopping Secret #3: Shop From The Outside In. The way most grocery stores are designed, you're going to find the healthy food in the outer aisles. This is usually where all the fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and meat are stored. These are the building blocks of a healthy diet. Make it a habit to go around the store first to grab your essentials. After, if there's something on your list you missed, then and only then should you venture into those dreaded center aisles (where all the junk food is hiding.)
Slimming Shopping Secret #4: If It's Hard To Pronounce, Then Don't Buy An Ounce! A lot of times you find yourself not knowing if a certain food is something you should be eating. Well, by following this simple rule, you'll never be confused again. The rule is, only buy food when you can pronounce all the ingredients on the label. Because chances are, if you can't say it, then it's probably an artificial ingredient or additive that isn't good for you anyway.
To prove my point, let's take two foods for an example:
Food #1:
Ingredients: Chicken breasts.
Food #2:
Ingredients: Sugar, unbleached enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin), high oleic canola and/or palm and/or canola and/or soybean oil,
cocoa, high fructose corn syrup, cornstarch, salt, leavening (baking soda and/or calcium phosphate), soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavor, chocolate.
It's easy to see which of these foods is healthier, right?
(The second is a very popular cookie, by the way.)
By sticking to these simple shopping rules, you'll skip a lot of the mistakes that can sabotage your fat loss efforts. So try them out the next time you go shopping and let me know how they work for you!
