Woman trying for girl gives birth to two sets of identical twin boys!

When Texas mom Tressa Montalvo began trying to have a second baby, she dreamed of giving her son a little sister. Instead, the 36-year-old and her husband, Manuel, were stunned to learn they were expecting quadruplets … and that the babies were two sets of identical twin boys!

Wow, talk about an unexpected surprise!

The couple thought they were having twins until their doctor detected a third fetal heartbeat.  They were referred to a maternal fetal medicine specialist, who then found a fourth heartbeat. They must have been beyond shocked. The odds of having one set of twins are relatively slim as it is, but having two sets?  Especially without use of fertility drugs or IVF? That's very rare and can potentially make for a risky pregnancy.

Thankfully, all four boys, Ace and Blaine (the first set of twins), and Cash and Dylan (the second), were born without complications on Valentine's Day. Aww, how adorable is that?! I can't think of a more perfect day to welcome the newest members of your family.

And the parents found a clever way to settle on names for their newborn babies. "We tried to stick to the A-B-C-D theme when naming them," Montalvo said in the statement. "We didn't expect it, we were trying for just one and we were blessed with four."

Can you imagine trying for a girl and ending up with four more boys? What a crazy turn of events! Still, it just goes to show you can never really plan the way parenthood will turn out! I'm just glad they seem to be thrilled with the outcome regardless. While raising five kids–four of which are newborns–is certainly going to be a challenge, the couple is blessed to have such a big family. Congrats to them both!
