Glam up with an easy chic side ponytail

This season the ponytail has undergone a pretty, polished makeover! I was sort of short on time this Saturday, with a dentist appointment in the morning and a ton of errands to run in the afternoon, so washing, drying, and styling my hair wasn't exactly an option. Instead I pulled back my dirty strands away from my face and into a low, chic side-parted ponytail. I was inspired by the sleek ponytails that were featured at the Christian Dior Fall 2012 Fashion Week show back in February. This modern and minimalistic 'do is a great look for day and night. And did I mention, it's really easy to do? Check out a few of my simple hairstyling tips below to help you achieve this look yourself at home!

Step 1: Start off by side parting your hair using the tail of a rattail comb. Then apply a generous amount of a smoothing hair serum, like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum ($7), to roots and brush down using a boar bristle flash brush, like Rickycare Bamboo Porcupine Round Paddle Brush ($8). This will help smoothly flatten your base.

Step 2: Pull hair into a very low ponytail securing with an elastic, and leaving about a one inch section of hair out.

Step 3: Flat-iron one inch sections of your ponytail straight and apply a pea-sized amount of hair serum throughout ends for a sleek and smooth finish.

Step 4:  Then take the loose section of hair and wrap it around the base of your ponytail and secure with small bobby pins. Spritz a finishing spray to lock the look in shape. Try Frederic Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray ($25).
